Patriots and Heroes Outdoors

One man’s long-held desire to put into action the words “Support Our Troops” has grown into what is now Patriots and Heroes Outdoors.  Army veteran Billy Hodges shared his idea with fellow members of the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department and other El Campo residents.  Together they founded Hunts For Heroes.  The primary goal was to support Purple Heart recipients recuperating from combat-related injuries by providing hunting and fishing opportunities.  Its rapid growth and success since 2006 was achieved through the unselfish effort of hundreds of sporting enthusiasts and landowners, the generosity of supporters across the country, and by the acceptance and appreciation of those they sought to honor.

Patriots and Heroes Outdoors was created to take the mission of Hunts For Heroes to the next level.  Our all-volunteer team is using their experience and lessons learned from planning and hosting activities for wounded veterans and active duty military personnel to build an organization that can extend our support capability across the country.

Patriots and Heroes Outdoors will carry on the proud tradition of Hunts for Heroes.  Our new mission reflects our understanding of the changing needs of service families.  We will strive to deserve the respect and appreciation shown by the military organizations that have worked with us in the past and to reach out to other military and non-military organizations to extend our support efforts.
